Hello everyone on the mission for the “one”!
I wanted to share with you all, some further history of Sydney, Cape Breton during my quest for the missing “one”. I had received an email from a member of the site regarding the “one” being hidden at the oldest baseball field in Sydney, which to his knowledge was “Victoria Park”. Victoria Park is now a Militia base in Sydney, and access to this location is strictly forbidden as a defense establishment at this time as such.
After checking out yet another diamond down in the North End of Sydney I decided to check in with a former pitcher for the Sydney Sooner’s - Mr. Kenny Power for his take on the clues at this point in time. Mr. Power confirmed that the pitcher is indeed the number “one” position in baseball.
Mr. Power indicated that he felt the missing one must be located at the “Susan McEachern Memorial Ballpark” in Sydney. He stated that the clues just seemed to all point to that location. When asked about the clue “guarded by Giants” Mr. Power responded “Susan McEachern WAS a Giant in our community”.
For those unaware, I wanted to share with you a little of the Sydney Sooner’s history – that of Mr. Power’s. KP set a Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League game strikeout record in 1979. During League quarter-final playoff action against the Morell Chevies in P.E.I, KP struck out 22 batters to lead the Sooner’s to an 11-1 Victory.
After my conversation with KP, I decided I had better go have a look down at the Susan McEachern Memorial Ballpark. Upon arrival, it was noted that you indeed had to cross a bridge to get to the park! However, to my dismay the gates to the park were locked, which almost immediately indicated that perhaps this was not the place. I was eager to read the memorial for Susan McEachern, but it was also locked inside the park. I urge you all to check out the attached photo of the Susan McEachern memorial, and, the clipping of the story of Mr. Kenny Power’s achievements with the Sooner’s that August in P.E.I. 30 years ago.
BTW – I already checked out the pitcher’s mound
