The CBRM Emergency Management Organization (EMO) reminds residents to take the necessary steps to be prepared in the event of a weather-related emergency.
Officials with the CBRM EMO are working closely with Nova Scotia EMO to monitor the path of Hurricane Earl and its potential impact on the CBRM and ensure the most current information is available to the public.
Because hurricanes can be unpredictable, it’s important to be prepared for the event of an emergency, which could include a loss of power or running water.
Maintain an emergency kit – including food, water, clothing, blankets, a flashlight, battery or cramk-powered radio, extra batteries, a first aid kit, extra medications and copies of important papers – to keep self-sufficient for at least 72 hours.
The public should also exercise caution around surf activity at beaches. If conditions become severe, storm surge and undertow can be extremely dangerous, and people should stay awy from coastal areas to watch a severe storm.
Residents in the CBRM are advised to stay tuned to local weather broadcasts and updates from the CBRM EMO and Nova Scotia EMO for potential weather watches and warnings.
