Members of the RCMP - Halifax District were conducting a check point early this morning at 12:50 A.M. on Highway 107 when a Chevrolet Cobalt approached the check point and turned up MacLaughlin Road to avoid police.
An RCMP officer observed the vehicle accelerate away at a high rate of speed. RCMP then proceeded onto MacLaughlin Road and came upon the Cobalt in the ditch approximately 800 meters from the end of the Road. The suspect had fled his vehicle into the woods and RCMP called for Police K-9 to assist. The suspect was advised by the officer that K-9 was en route and he responded that he is giving up and came out of the woods.
A 19-year-old male from Dartmouth was arrested and released to appear in Nova Scotia Provincial Court in Dartmouth, N.S.on September 15, 2010. He will be facing charges of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Police and was issued a violation ticket for Driving While Suspended.
