On Saturday, July 24, shortly before 5:00 am, the Cape Breton Regional Police Central Division Patrol Section received a complaint of a male running around Ferry Street shouting a female’s name.
Police then responded to a disturbance on Harrington Place and moments later were called to Dolbin Street regarding a report of a female being assaulted. As a result Police located a female victim. She had sustained non-life threatening injuries and told police she had been assaulted with a bottle by her boyfriend.
The male suspect had fled from the area on foot prior to police arrival and police received information that he was armed with a knife. The Canine ( K-9 ) Unit was deployed and quickly located the male hiding in a vehicle near by with a knife in his possession.
The 39 year old male suspect was arrested without incident. He has been charged with Assault, Assault with a Weapon and Failing to Comply with Probation. He has since been remanded to the Cape Breton County Correctional Center until Monday when he will appear in Sydney Provincial Court.
The female had an outstanding warrant for her arrest in relation to a parole violation and was subsequently arrested and also later remanded.
