Nova Scotia mussels, oysters, other seafood products and wines will be featured at the Sip 'n Shuck event on Friday, Jan. 29, at the Delta Halifax Hotel.

"Almost half of the seafood protein consumed by humans comes from aquaculture products," said Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Sterling Belliveau. "Nova Scotia has an increasingly important role to play in meeting this demand."

Sip 'n Shuck is part of the Scotian Pride Conference, an annual meeting hosted by the Aquaculture Association of Nova Scotia. Experts will demonstrate how to shuck an oyster, and a sommelier will provide information about Nova Scotia wines.

"Partnerships are necessary among industry, academics, governments, and the community to provide for long-term, sustainable and socioeconomic benefits for our coastal and rural areas of the province," said Mr. Belliveau.

Tickets cost $30 per person, or $25 per person when purchasing two or more. They may be purchased from Taste of Nova Scotia by calling 902-492-9291, extension 114 or at the door. The event takes place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by Dave MacIsaac and Louis Benoit.

Partners include the departments of Agriculture, and Fisheries and Aquaculture, Aquaculture Association of Nova Scotia, Winery Association of Nova Scotia, Taste of Nova Scotia, and Delta Hotels.
